Divorce financial preparation

Divorce is a financial event as much as a legal one, and most people walk into it without a clear picture of what they own, owe, earn, and spend. That picture is what I help you build.

What I do

• Organize the full financial inventory: accounts, debts, property, income, and expenses, with statements behind every number, ready for your attorney or mediator.
• Cash-flow analysis and forecasting: what one household costs on one income, and how each decision on the table changes the next five years.
• Settlement analysis: model the proposals side by side, including retirement accounts, the house, support, and taxes, so you can see what each one really means for you.
• Dividing debt and assets fairly, and deciding on housing: keep, sell, or refinance, with the numbers to back the choice.
• Managing financial risk through the transition: insurance gaps, emergency fund, and credit in your own name.
• Financial wellness after the decree: a plan for the next two years, not just the settlement date.
• Basic tax and investment education as it relates to your settlement. These are not my specialty; for complex questions I'll refer you.

What I don't do

• I am not an attorney and do not give legal advice, draft or review legal documents, or tell you what to accept.
• I am not a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst® and do not provide expert-witness testimony. If your case needs that, I'll say so and help you find one.
• I do not prepare tax returns.

Why start here

Litigation-support specialists commonly bill $200 to $300 an hour. Much of what they charge for is groundwork: the inventory, the cash flow, the modeling. Doing that groundwork with me first costs less, and it makes any specialist hour count.
